Showed slides of lives of every day women--how were they different/similar to our lives today. • girls wed between 12 - 14. Arranged marriages • Wives stood behind husbands. • Main duty was to bear children and run the household • Prepared food and wove cloth • Women were restricted, little freedom outside the home and courtyard • Mistresses were tolerated • No role in public life • Boy babies were more valued than girl babies
Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibit continues at the DeYoung Museum until March 28, 2010. There will be a Cartier exhibit in December.
